RACE and KWETB has welcomed Minister for Higher and Further Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, TD, to the Curragh Racecourse for a demonstration by trainee jockeys on the Racehorse Care and Riding (Trainee Jockey) Course.

Minister Harris received a flavour of this course by observing students using a riding simulator to track galloping movement, feedback on rider balance and monitoring rein contact. The Minister also got an opportunity to speak with students and staff involved with the course.

HRI (Horse Racing Ireland) facilitated the meeting and it was a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate to the Minister how industry bodies, education and training are working together to support the horse racing industry in Ireland.

RACE (Racing Academy & Centre of Education) and KWETB (Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board) have been running this unique QQI recognised Racehorse Care and Riding (Trainee Jockey) Course successfully for many years, producing prize winning jockeys. The course is supported by a team of experts in riding techniques, nutrition and horsemanship in a state-of-the-art campus at the Curragh, Co. Kildare.
